Making Health Services Accessible to All
The Family Life Education Program (FLEP) is a key player in advancing Primary Health Care (PHC) in the Busoga region of Uganda. Since 1986, FLEP has been committed to increasing access to quality health services, focusing on underserved communities and aligning its efforts with Uganda’s Ministry of Health (MoH) Strategic Plan 2020–2025.
What We Do in PHC
- Comprehensive Health Services:
- Deliver curative health services, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, adolescent sexual and reproductive health education, and behavior change communication.
- Support for Rural Health Centers:
- Operate a network of 52 rural health centers providing essential healthcare in hard-to-reach areas.
- Strengthen health infrastructure and logistics to ensure consistent service delivery.
- Community Engagement:
- Promote health education, encourage service uptake, and empower communities to advocate for their health rights.
- Use behavior change communication and advocacy to foster long-term health improvements.
- Partnerships and Collaboration:
- Partner with organizations like the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB) and government agencies to expand impact.
- Advocate for multisectoral collaboration to address complex health challenges.
- Cross-Cutting Initiatives:
- Address the broader determinants of health, including climate change, gender equity, and socioeconomic factors.
Key Examples of Our PHC Work
- HIV/AIDS Prevention:
Provide HIV counseling and testing (HCT), risk reduction education, and referrals for antiretroviral therapy. Promote male involvement through advocacy and community training. - Family Planning:
Deliver family planning services and support over 500 Village Health Teams (VHTs) to reach remote communities with critical reproductive health information. - Adolescent Health:
Engage youth aged 10-24 with education on sexual health, contraception, and safe practices to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
Alignment with National Goals
