Partnering with Communities for Sustainable Health Improvements

FLEP’s mission is to deliver quality health services by working in partnership with communities and organizations. Guided by the teachings of Christ, FLEP prioritizes community participation, ensuring that development efforts are owned and driven by the people themselves.

What We Do in Community Engagement

  1. Community-Centered Healthcare:
    • Operate 52 rural health centers offering essential healthcare services.
    • Partner with over 500 Village Health Teams (VHTs) to connect communities to health services.
  2. Diverse Communication Strategies:
    • Use community dialogues, drama, puppetry, interpersonal communication, and radio shows to reach diverse audiences.
    • Leverage social media and a dedicated website to provide health education and updates.
  3. Collaborative Program Development:
    • Involve community members, religious leaders, and cultural institutions like the Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga (OBB) in planning and implementing health programs.
  4. Feedback and Improvement:
    • Regularly collect and act on community feedback to refine services and address local needs effectively.
  5. Partnerships with CBOs:
    • Work closely with grassroots organizations to understand and respond to specific community challenges.

What We Do in Advocacy

  1. Empowering Communities:
    • Mobilize communities to demand quality health and social services through forums, grassroots initiatives, and radio shows.
  2. Holding Duty Bearers Accountable:
    • Engage government officials to ensure they fulfill their responsibilities for providing quality health services.
  3. Policy Advocacy:
    • Advocate for policy changes, such as implementing adolescent health policies, improving SRHR access, and ensuring a consistent drug supply.
  4. Building Advocacy Capacity:
    • Train staff in local government planning, budget analysis, and allocation to effectively advocate for increased health funding.
  5. Evidence-Based Advocacy:
    • Collect and present data to support advocacy positions and influence decision-making at local, regional, and national levels.
  6. Collaborative Advocacy:
    • Partner with local and international organizations to amplify advocacy efforts and achieve shared health goals.

Our Advocacy Achievements

  • Increased access to SRHR services for young people.
  • Strengthened efforts to address health worker absenteeism and improve drug supply chains.
  • Advocated for citizen empowerment, enabling patients to demand their health rights and responsibilities.

Why Community Engagement and Advocacy Matter

FLEP believes that sustainable health improvements require active community involvement and accountability from duty bearers. By empowering communities to take ownership of their health and advocating for systemic change, FLEP is creating a more equitable and just health system in the Busoga region.
