The Late Rt. Rev. Cyprian Bamwoze
Rt. Rev. Cyprian Bamwoze was the first Bishop of Busoga Diocese, serving from 1972 to 1998. A visionary leader, he played a pivotal role in the development of both spiritual and social services in Busoga, Uganda. Bishop Bamwoze was not only dedicated to the church but also to improving the well-being of his community. In May 1986, he founded the Family Life Education Program (FLEP), which provides reproductive health, HIV/AIDS care, and tuberculosis treatment across 11 districts and 1 city in East Central Uganda. FLEP was instrumental in addressing critical health issues and improving healthcare outcomes, especially for infants, youth, and adults.
Known for his holistic approach to ministry, Bamwoze integrated faith with practical solutions for social and health challenges, leaving a lasting legacy in healthcare, education, and development. Even after his retirement, he remained an influential advocate for his people. He passed away in 2019, remembered as a pioneer of development-oriented leadership in Uganda.FLEP addresses gender based violence (GBV), promotes socioeconomic development, and advocates for climate change awareness and mitigation at grassroots level in Busoga region.
FLEP manages and oversees a network of 52 rural health centers stprovides essential care, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
